Reproduction 1890s red silk organdy waist/blouse with black tropical weight wool walking skirt for Sunday tea at Costume College 2025.
Bodice
Red silk organdy over red cotton with puffed upper sleeves. Black cotton lining on sides.
Pattern: Laughing Moon 103 - 1890's Waist with Four Bodice and Five Sleeve Options
Modifications:
- Size 20 shortened 1”, raised armhole up 1/2”
- Size 16/18 sleeve reduced to size 4/6 at wrist, shortened 3”
- Lower sleeve overlay reduced fullness.
- Bodice center front overlay reduced length.
Skirt
Black tropical weight wool walking skirt with cotton poly lining has back in seam pockets.
Pattern: McCall's M8231 1890s Blouse and Skirt
Modifications include:
- 31.5" waist Size 18 hips estimated because pattern only went up to size 12
- Shortened skirt hem 3”-5" and then shortened some more, mostly more in the back
- Shortened back to eliminate train
- Added hidden pockets to side-back seams
- Added 8" horsehair blend fabric facing to poly/cotton lining. Bagged hem, set darts in lining and fashion fabric together.
- 2 hook and eyes at top waist and put placket on center back. Snaps on placket.
Hat
Black silk taffeta over buckram wire frame with artificial flowers.
Pattern: Self drafted
Petticoat
White cotton petticoat
Pattern: Laughing Moon 102
- Size 18 waist and Size 24 hips.
- Shortened hem 3"
