Reproduction 1890s cycling outfit with cotton yellow gold shirtwaist, gray/black split skirt, and gaiters for an 1890s riding group meet up at Costume College 2025 Saturday day. The shirtwaist and gaiters needed a lot of mockups and/or fitting. The netting in the upper sleeves worked for a while, but then ended up slightly deflated.
Yellow with small white dot printed cotton has front yoke, large puffed sleeves with upper lined in netting, gathers into
a waistband with a peplum, and buttons up the front.
Pattern: Truly Victorian TV494 1894 Shirtwaists
Modifications:
Split skirt buttons up front on sides and front to look like a skirt in front and is split in back. Side seam pockets. Unbutton front center for cycling. Printed black cotton to mimic wool or other bottomweights and still be lightweight for summer.
Pattern: Truly Victorian TV299 1901 Split Skirt
Modifications include:
White cotton twill with self covered buttons, silver polyester satin lining, and black elastic on instep.
Pattern: Laughing Moon B7 Men's and Ladies' Gaiters or Spatterdashes . Took several mock ups and fittings to get custom fit for short legs with small ankles and wide calves.
Completed: ~July 2025
